'Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Early Years'.

Welcome to my website!
I'm passionate about child care and early years and have worked in the field since leaving school. I have been working freelance since 2002, delivering bespoke training for local authorities around the country, for educational organsiations, in a variety of early years settings and schools. I have experience working with Montessori settings and Independent schools. I also regularly contribute to various Early Years publications and have 3 books published.
As well as training, I offer consultancy services including popular mock inspections working with settings to improve quality and maintain continuous imporvement. For more details see the consultancy services page. I also write books and articles on early years.

The Quality of Teaching in Early Years

This course unpicks, unravels and reveals what quality teaching is in early years and the definition of teaching for the youngest children. Drawing on practical examples with opportunity for reflection, it considers the issues in relatable style.
  • To reflect on what ‘teaching’ in the early years means in practice.
  • To consider how we provide a framework in practice for quality child led learning and effective teaching.
  • To reflect on and identify best practice.
Consideration will be given to:
  • The routine as a framework.
  • Significance of the continuous provision.
  • Quality interactions and the role of the practitioner.
  • Being responsive to children and in the moment teaching/planning.
  • Impact on learning.
  • Evaluation

‘Jenny has worked with us for the past year and a half.  We engage her services to undertake “mock ofsted” inspections, training and guidance and support following the “mocksteds”.

We have found Jenny to be extremely accurate in her assessments; her guidance and ongoing support has been an invaluable aspect of the nurseries development and improvement.

Jenny is professional and ensures that staff and managers understand their strengths and weaknesses whilst maintaining an approach that is supportive and realistic.’
